Prakash Thambipillai, BA (he/him)
Prakash is currently pursuing his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Queen's. Prior to his graduate studies, Prakash completed his Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in psychology at York University, where his thesis examined the trajectories of caregiver self-efficacy and child mental health outcomes following a brief emotion-focused intervention for caregivers. While at York, Prakash worked with the Emotion Transformation Lab in Toronto as a volunteer and then Lab Manager. After graduating, Prakash worked as an RA on The SUMMIT Trial at Sinai Health, a 4-arm randomized controlled psychotherapy trial aiming to increase access to perinatal mental health. Prakash's Master's research explored the role of embodied information in the formation of self-efficacy during parent-child interactions, particularly in the context of conflict. Now, as a PhD student at the EMBody Lab, Prakash is studying emotion flexibility in first- and second-generation immigrants during emerging adulthood. His work seeks to understand how cultural orientation shapes immigrants' ability to adaptively regulate emotions across different interpersonal contexts, and how this flexibility impacts their psychosocial well-being.
